From 14th – 19th July 5 of our riders and a willing band of 15 parents and helpers travelled up to Wales to stay at the RDA Special Riding Centre at Clwyd.
This was a first time for all of us and what a huge success. Our arrival found us hurrying to unpack and change into riding clothes so that we could be allocated suitable mounts for our riders and what stars they turned out to be.
We were given the free rein of the venue and were able to ride out at least once a day around a track with sensory trails, woodland paths and a watersplash that some of the volunteers objected to once it had rained and the water was deeper!
We had a fabulous band of caterers (willing parents) and a great pub in the village! Activities included grooming, tacking-up, washing tails, painting horse shoes, playing board games and of course the much moaned about tack-cleaning! All done with enthusiasm. Sleep was never a problem with all the hard work and fresh air and we finished the holiday with a trip on a horse drawn barge.
Whilst there, we had a visit from our Regional Instructor who carried out our annual assessment which also resulted in Mathew L gaining his Grade 2 riding certificate. Clwyd is definitely ‘the whole package’ and and experience we hope that we can repeat.
