The sun shone brightly, our volunteers were at the ready and after being polished, Alfie, Diesel and Jessie looked very smart and ready to take their riders. The horses were kept busy with five of our riders attending the event, Kathryn, Heather and Harry and first-timers,Gill and Oliver.
They all took part in the Town and Country Challenge course, with each one scoring in the 70’s. We were so proud! Many congratulations to Heather and Gill who were well deserved winners of their senior classes. Well done to Harry, with a brilliant trot and Jo, who concentrated hard and achieved 2nd and Kathryn and Oliver who produced a consistent round to achieve 3rd place. All of our riders also enjoyed riding a clear round in the showjumping held in the indoor arena and received a ‘Well done’ rosette.
Heather, Jo, Oliver and Harry also proved their knowledge of grooming & looking after ponies by taking part in the horse care and knowledge quiz.
After all of the four groups had competed, we all enjoyed a picnic waiting for prize-giving, where our riders proudly collected their rosettes. It was lovely to see so many smiling faces and their supporters to share in the achievement and enjoyment of all the riders, which created such a lovely happy atmosphere.
Heather was very excited to also win the Rosemary Stretch cup for the highest score in the senior classes with an impressive 78%. She took our Regional Chair, Ruth, by surprise by giving her a big hug!
What a lovely surprise at the end of the day for the Group to be awarded the Warwickshire Trophy for our efforts in returning to ‘near-normal’ after the pandemic. It will take a proud place in our classroom!
Our horses were on top form, so a big pat for them and a huge thank you to Keith and Karen who transported them back and forth to Lowlands.
Lastly, our coaches and volunteers also deserve a big thank you for all of the work behind the scenes in preparing for the day, grooming, bathing tails, cleaning tack and preparing our riders for the annual competition. Also those who organized the day, the judges, stewards and the Secretary’s office which included the scoring and prize giving. We could not have wonderful days like this without you. Lovely memories to keep!
